2025 CDHAW Summer School Shanghai successfully completed

On September 25, the three-week Summer School 2025 for German students at CDHAW Tongji University successfully concluded. A total of 201 international students from member universities of the German University Consortium for International Cooperation (DHIK) participated in the summer school. This international academic and cultural exchange program for German (and European) students, jointly organized by CDHAW and DHIK, has developed into an influential academic initiative.

The CDHAW Summer School 2025 offered a rich and diverse program that seamlessly combined academic lectures, company visits, and cultural activities. During the academic lectures, German professors and experts from companies such as AUDI, BASF, VDI, and Aston Martin delivered a series of engaging presentations on topics such as the Chinese economic system, the transformation and challenges of the Chinese automotive industry, intercultural challenges for managers, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and industrial sustainability. The concluding academic session of the summer school focused on the latest developments in robotics and AI, an area in which China's research and industrial ambitions are particularly strong. The lecture outlined the immense challenges and opportunities of new technologies, such as the transfer of AI from the digital world to the physical world.

Company visits are also an important highlight of the CDHAW Summer School. Participants toured the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), SIEMENS Healthineers, the leading robotics manufacturer UNITREE, Hinton AI, and the BYD factory. Students gained valuable insights into industrial production processes and current technological advances. The visit to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), for example, demonstrated China's ability to host very large international events and its role as a global trade hub. The visit to SIEMENS Healthineers offered a compelling case study of German engineering adapted to the Chinese healthcare market. These practical experiences significantly deepened the students' understanding of China's economic structure and innovation capabilities.

In addition to the academic events and company visits, the CDHAW Summer School 2025 offered a rich cultural program. Students explored the water town of Zhujiajiao, visited the Shaolin Temple and the Kung Fu school in Zhengzhou, and participated in traditional cultural activities such as calligraphy, dragon boat racing, and Tai Chi. The cultural workshops provided a deep immersion in Chinese traditions and offered a refreshing counterbalance to the technical academic program. For example, the emphasis on patience, precision, and gradual improvement in calligraphy reflected the long-term approach to studying in China.

The CDHAW Summer School is not only an educational trip but also a bridge between Chinese and German culture and friendship. Through this platform, the Sino-German partners enable international students to experience Chinese culture and witness the development of modern China firsthand. We thank all supporters and sponsors!
